college application process 
GROUP workshops -CANCELLED FOR SUMMER 2020 due to covid-19

Junior/Senior Year College List Workshops 
$175 per student, max of 4:1 ratio, two or three meetings, total of 2 - 2.5 hours depending on student's needs
Offered on select dates February - September. 2019 dates
  • First meeting (1.5 hr, group) includes:
    • The necessity of a good college list and repercussions of a bad list
    • Evaluating yourself as a candidate (and your desired major) to determine your safety, target, and reach schools
    • The importance of a financial safety on your list and discussing finances with family as you make your list
    • How to use your college visits to streamline your list
    • Using Naviance or Big Future to create your list, and some pitfalls to avoid
    • Discussion of community college transfer pathway
    • Plan for narrowing your list down over time with a goal of applying to 7-10 schools 
    • Creating a timeline with all application deadlines for colleges on your list
  • Second meeting (30 min) is one-on-one review of your list by consultant to verify safety, target, and reach schools
  • Third meeting (30 min) is one-on-one review of your list if you make changes over time (optional)

Senior Year Essay Workshops 
$250 per student, max of 4:1 ratio, three meetings, total of 3-3.5 hours depending on number of students in workshop
Offered on select dates June - September. 2019 dates
  • First Meeting (1.5 hr, group) includes:
    • Essay overview – focus is on the different types of essays required by different application platforms (Common App/Coalition essay, Personal Insight Questions, and Supplemental Essays)
    • Importance of using your own voice - letting the readers learn who you are
    • Individualized advice on selecting topics for essays, with focus on highlighting multiple aspects of the student’s personality, interests, and achievements
    • Brainstorming exercises to jumpstart the writing process
  • Second meeting (1-1.5 hr, group) includes peer essay review and consultant review of essay drafts 
  • Final meeting (30 mins) is one-on-one consultant essay review – suggestions covering topic, direction, voice, and grammar. (Additional consultant time is available at hourly rate.)
